Down Hill Billy Cart Festival Sun 30/10/2022
Pioneer Park, Mount Helena
The Hills Big Band braved the the elements to windup
the the Downhill Billy Cart Festival for 2022
With the storm clouds threatening the Hills Big Band managed to put on an exciting mix of
Swing and Latin instrumentals plus Vocals by Lee (Leroy) Laing.
Leading off with a driving arrangement of ‘Jumpin at the Woodside’ by our own Maestro Tom Salleo
then followed up by ‘Big Swing Face’ a Buddy Rich number.
Vocalist Lee joined the band on stage for ‘Fever’, ‘Night and Day’ and ‘I’ve got the World on a String (with the whole band on backing vocals)’
The band then got stuck into Dizzy Gillespie’s ‘Manteca’ a pulsating hypnotic latin instrumental featuring drummer Kevin Huang
which certainly got the audience involved.
President Steve Martin (Trombone) featured on Tall Cotton followed up by Adrian Raeber (Flugelhorn) on
a breathtaking version (literally) of ‘My Funny Valentine’.
The set was wound up with Lee returning to the Stage for a new take on ‘All of Me’ and then finally a nod to old
Blue-eyes Sinatra with a great rendition of ‘New York New York’
The whole Band hope to see you all again at next years event!
